China–Europa Internationaal Uitwisselingsatelier voor Keramiekkunst

Dit residentieproject is een samenwerking tussen Klei & Vuur VZW (België) en Pansong Studio in Jianshui. Drie weken lang komen keramisten uit China en Europa samen in de historische stad Jianshui, een plek waar eeuwenoude tradities en actuele keramische praktijken elkaar raken.

Onder het thema “Sporen · Tijd · Vat” wordt stilgestaan bij de vormtaal en monumentale esthetiek uit de Han- en Tang-dynastieën, in dialoog met de hedendaagse gevoeligheid van wabi-sabi. Het programma brengt kunstenaars samen rond uitwisseling, materiaalonderzoek en houtgestookte processen.

De deelnemers krijgen toegang tot Jianshui’s typische grondstoffen, zoals de vijfkleurige klei, en tot de lokale kerf- en inlegtechnieken. De deelnemers kunnen dan vrij onderzoeken hoe deze materialen en inzichten een plek kunnen krijgen binnen de eigen praktijk. Op die manier groeit nieuw werk waarin beide keramische culturen op een natuurlijke manier in elkaar overvloeien.

Het 21-daagse traject bestaat uit drie stappen:

1. Kennismaking met Jianshui’s culturele en materiële context

2. Studio- en stookpraktijk met ruimte voor individuele interpretatie

3. Presentatie en reflectie met kunstenaars en experts

Zo ontstaat een brug tussen Oost en West die verder gaat dan een tijdelijk atelier. Het project wil zowel betekenisvolle keramische werken mogelijk maken als een duurzaam internationaal uitwisselingsplatform uitbouwen. Jianshui krijgt daarbij de rol van knooppunt waar traditie en actualiteit elkaar ontmoeten, en waar Belgische en Chinese keramisten op een gelijkwaardige manier nieuwe richtingen binnen de keramiekkunst verkennen.

China–Europe International Exchange Workshop for Ceramic Art

This residency project is a collaboration between Klei & Vuur VZW (Belgium) and Pansong Studio in Jianshui. For three weeks, ceramists from China and Europe will come together in the historic city of Jianshui, a place where centuries-old traditions and contemporary ceramic practices intersect.Under the theme 'Traces · Time · Vessel', the project reflects on the formal language and monumental aesthetics of the Han and Tang dynasties, in dialogue with the contemporary sensibility of wabi-sabi. The programme brings artists together around exchange, material research and wood-fired processes.

Participants will have access to Jianshui's typical raw materials, such as five-coloured clay, and to local carving and inlay techniques. Participants will then be free to explore how these materials and insights can be incorporated into their own practice. In this way, new work will emerge in which both ceramic cultures flow into each other in a natural way.

The 21-day programme consists of three steps:

1. Introduction to Jianshui's cultural and material context

2. Studio and firing practice with room for individual interpretation

3. Presentation and reflection with artists and experts

This creates a bridge between East and West that goes beyond a temporary studio. The project aims to enable meaningful ceramic works and to develop a sustainable international exchange platform. Jianshui will serve as a hub where tradition and modernity meet, and where Belgian and Chinese ceramists explore new directions in ceramic art on an equal footing.
